Continuation of Rehabilitation Program for Paraplegia

Paraplegia is a type of paralysis impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower extremities. It is usually caused by spinal cord injury or a congenital condition such as spina bifida that affects the neural components of the spinal canal. The region of the spinal canal that is affected in paraplegia is either the thoracic, lumbar, or sacral regions. If all four limbs are affected by paralysis, tetraplegia or quadriplegia is the correct term. If only one limb is affected, the correct term is monoplegia.

Most patients require 28 additional days of rehabilitation treatment to consolidate the progress made in the initial program. For this reason we propose a second program of continuation for those patients who can stand on their own or with the help of his companion without requiring nursing care.

The comprehensive and intensive program proposed by the Republic of Cuba is intended to improve many functions with a system of comprehensive and intensive rehabilitation.

The program is 28 days long and includes the following:

Medical re-Interconsultation with a neurology specialist
Medical re-Interconsultation with a neuropsychology specialist
Re-consultation with Speech and Language Pathologists

Depending on the evaluation, the following laboratory testing and analysis could be requested:

Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) test
Cyturia test
White Blood Count (WBC) test
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (automated method) test

Specialized medical care and physiotherapy
Poliphysiotherapy (36 sessions)
Ozone therapy (10 sessions)

The above program does not include medications for certain conditions such as depression, blood coagulation, etc.
Medicaments, fluids, blood and derivatives to be used, as well as additional procedure(s) performed not included in the exact treatment would be invoiced separately on upon the conclusion of said treatment / procedure(s)
