Renal Transplantation Assessment Program (living donor) has become the treatment of choice for most patients with advanced stages of renal disease or End Stages of Renal Disease (ESRD). Marked improvements in early graft survival and long-term graft function have made kidney transplantation a more cost-effective alternative, and less cumbersome to dialysis procedures.

Renal Transplantation Assessment Program (living donor) has become the treatment of choice for most patients with advanced stages of renal disease or End Stages of Renal Disease (ESRD). Marked improvements in early graft survival and long-term graft function have made kidney transplantation a more cost-effective alternative, and less cumbersome to dialysis procedures.

To qualify for such procedure, the following assessment test and investigations:

  1. Cuba only offers kidney transplants from living donors whereby the donor must be a blood relative of the patient (parents, siblings, and children) and must be 18 years old or above.
  2. The patient and donor must remain in Cuba for the duration of the following two phases:
  • Phase I: This phase requires 15 days of hospitalization and would include the following:
    • Extensive hematological and diagnostic tests which will include
    • Urological Research
    • Images evaluation
  • Phase II: This phase requires 28 of hospitalization for the recipient and 14 days of hospitalization for the donor

Please be aware of the following:

  1. The donor must be a compatible relative;
  2. Dialyses are not included in the price of this program;
  3. In order to perform the transplant, it is essential that the patient comes with a compatible family donor; and
  4. Expenses for the companion are not covered by this program, an additional cost would apply, which will include accommodation and meals

SURGICAL PROCEDURE(S)

Surgical Procedure (Recipient):

  • Studies of immune compatibility
  • Enema evacuation
  • Operating theater and anesthesia administration
  • Surgical procedure (Lumboscopic nephrectomy and implant)
  • Deep Venous Thrombosis approach
  • Intensive care unit rumination (2 nights)
  • Isolation unit care (7 nights)
  • Post operatory research tests
  • Rumination after surgery (11 nights)

Surgical Procedure (Donor):

  • Studies of immune compatibility
  • Enema evacuation
  • Operating theater and anesthesia administration
  • Surgical procedure (Lumboscopic nephrectomy)
  • Deep Venous Thrombosis approach
  • Post operatory research tests
  • Rumination after surgery (10 nights)

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • The above program does not include medications for certain conditions such as
    depression, blood coagulation, etc.
  • Medicaments, fluids, blood and derivatives to be used, as well as additional procedure(s)
    performed not included in the exact treatment would be invoiced
    separately on upon the conclusion of said treatment / procedure(s)

ACCOMMODATION:

Private room with the following features:

  • Electronic patient bed
  • Equipment for disabled patient
  • Oxygen hookup
  • Three à la carte meals taking into account the patient’s preferences and / or special diets prescribed by physician
  • Fully equipped private bathroom
  • Infirmary and nursing care
  • Colour TV with national and international channels
  • Local and international phone services (extra cost will apply)
  • Safe box
  • Internet service on every floor
  • Laundry services

ADDITIONAL SERVICES INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM:

  • Assistance in visa issuance and extension (If needs be)
  • Each patient/ companion will be assigned a multi-lingual field member with the mandate of attending to all of our patients’ translation and personal needs;
  • 20 hours internet service;
  • Local airport pickup and drop off; and
  • Hospital pickup and drop off (if needed)
